Population <strong>and</strong> Demographics<br />

The total population of <strong>Limerick</strong> City in 2011 was 57,106 <strong>and</strong> the population of the County was<br />

134,703. The combined population of the City <strong>and</strong> the County totalled 191,809 <strong>and</strong> constituted just<br />

over 4% of the total population of the State. The population of the <strong>Limerick</strong> Metropolitan Area<br />

presented here is 95,242.<br />

The population structure <strong>and</strong> age distribution of the Metropolitan Area <strong>and</strong> the City are relatively<br />

favourable in economic terms as 70% <strong>and</strong> 69%, respectively, are of working age compared to 67% at<br />

the County <strong>and</strong> State level. Relative to other geographies a high proportion of the new Metropolitan<br />

Area <strong>and</strong> <strong>Limerick</strong> City’s population are between the ages of 15 <strong>and</strong> 24 which points to a growing<br />

work<strong>for</strong>ce over the next 10 years.<br />
