<strong>Limerick</strong> 2030 <strong>An</strong> <strong>Economic</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Spatial</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Limerick</strong><br />

A further public sector organisation involved in innovation in <strong>Limerick</strong> is Enterprise Irel<strong>and</strong> (EI), which<br />

runs a range of programmes designed to promote innovation <strong>and</strong> commercialisation of research.<br />

Across the State in 2010, EI assisted ten businesses <strong>for</strong>med as a result of spin-outs from third level<br />

colleges <strong>and</strong> the EI continues to assist in the development of a number of new businesses each year.<br />

EI has supported the commercialisation of research through the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) at<br />

the University of <strong>Limerick</strong>. Since 2000, the TTO has supported over 80 separate projects including a<br />

number of notable company <strong>for</strong>mations:<br />

Stokes Bio Ltd: Dedicated to development <strong>and</strong> application of microfluidic technology <strong>for</strong><br />

genetic analysis, particularly gene expression measurement <strong>and</strong> gene target detection.<br />

Powervation Ltd: Delivers energy-efficient solutions <strong>for</strong> power systems used in Networking,<br />

Storage <strong>and</strong> Computing applications.<br />

Crescent Diagnostics Ltd: Is developing a new prognostic test <strong>for</strong> hip fracture risk that analyses<br />

toe nail proteins <strong>and</strong> estimates bone health.<br />

Further to the range of education institutions <strong>and</strong> EI supported companies undertaking R&D in<br />

<strong>Limerick</strong> there are also a number of businesses in ICT, medical technologies <strong>and</strong> advanced<br />

manufacturing that have strong inter-linkages <strong>and</strong> a R&D focus. A selection is shown below.<br />
