Arts, Culture, Tourism<br />

Arts <strong>and</strong> Culture are a significant component of the success of city centres. They contribute<br />

directly to the appeal of a city centre <strong>for</strong> shoppers, employees, employers. They are a major<br />

component of the success of a tourism offer. Critically, <strong>Limerick</strong> has been designated as Irel<strong>and</strong>’s<br />

first City of Culture <strong>for</strong> 2014. While there is a range of strategic issues <strong>for</strong> <strong>Limerick</strong>’s arts <strong>and</strong> cultural<br />

institutions themselves, the focus here is on the contribution to the City of the <strong>Economic</strong> Strategy<br />

<strong>and</strong> City Centre <strong>Spatial</strong> <strong>Plan</strong>.<br />

<strong>Limerick</strong>’s higher education institutions make a major contribution to <strong>Limerick</strong>’s wider arts <strong>and</strong><br />
