justice, telecommunications, and the mining sectors, all relevant to the
achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). As the
government allocates substantial budgets to these sectors, conducting
diagnostic studies and finding out the reality will contribute significantly
to ensuring that the country’s financial resources are deployed to the
desired objectives, and to filling an information gap in this area.
The diagnostic studies and the recommendations forwarded play a
pivotal role in accelerating the ongoing struggle against corruption by
ensuring transparency and accountability in our country. They will also
create the opportunity to base comments on concrete information. The
studies have achieved their objective in this respect.
I would like to assure you that the Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption
Commission of Ethiopia (FEACC) is committed to the follow-up and
implementation of recommendations put forward in the same way that
it cooperated during the execution of the studies. We will also do our best
to make the diagnostic studies accessible to stakeholders.
The Ethiopian government wishes to support similar studies in the
future to reinvigorate the nationwide struggle against corruption. As long
as our partners support the anti-corruption endeavor, we will be willing
to conduct similar studies, and the door is open for those who would like
to support us in such efforts. Finally, on behalf of the Commission, I
would like to express my sincere gratitude to U.K. Department for
International Development (DFID), the Canadian International
Development Agency (CIDA), the Royal Netherlands Embassy, and the
World Bank, which have taken part in and financed the studies.
