justice, telecommunications, and the m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g sectors, all relevant to the<br />

achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). As the<br />

government allocates substantial budgets to these sectors, conduct<strong>in</strong>g<br />

diagnostic studies and f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g out the reality will contribute significantly<br />

to ensur<strong>in</strong>g that the country’s f<strong>in</strong>ancial resources are deployed to the<br />

desired objectives, and to fill<strong>in</strong>g an <strong>in</strong>formation gap <strong>in</strong> this area.<br />

The diagnostic studies and the recommendations forwarded play a<br />

pivotal role <strong>in</strong> accelerat<strong>in</strong>g the ongo<strong>in</strong>g struggle aga<strong>in</strong>st corruption by<br />

ensur<strong>in</strong>g transparency and accountability <strong>in</strong> our country. They will also<br />

create the opportunity to base comments on concrete <strong>in</strong>formation. The<br />

studies have achieved their objective <strong>in</strong> this respect.<br />

I would like to assure you that the Federal Ethics and Anti-<strong>Corruption</strong><br />

Commission of <strong>Ethiopia</strong> (FEACC) is committed to the follow-up and<br />

implementation of recommendations put forward <strong>in</strong> the same way that<br />

it cooperated dur<strong>in</strong>g the execution of the studies. We will also do our best<br />

to make the diagnostic studies accessible to stakeholders.<br />

The <strong>Ethiopia</strong>n government wishes to support similar studies <strong>in</strong> the<br />

future to re<strong>in</strong>vigorate the nationwide struggle aga<strong>in</strong>st corruption. As long<br />

as our partners support the anti-corruption endeavor, we will be will<strong>in</strong>g<br />

to conduct similar studies, and the door is open for those who would like<br />

to support us <strong>in</strong> such efforts. F<strong>in</strong>ally, on behalf of the Commission, I<br />

would like to express my s<strong>in</strong>cere gratitude to U.K. Department for<br />

International Development (DFID), the Canadian International<br />

Development Agency (CIDA), the Royal Netherlands Embassy, and the<br />

World Bank, which have taken part <strong>in</strong> and f<strong>in</strong>anced the studies.<br />
