is a remote possibility.
Everyone used to visit Mahaveer Swami, king and
his people, rich-poor. Once a king came to meet
Mahaveerji, as he was a king he wanted to gift some
expensive thing. He took the diamond necklace with
him, Mahaveerji said ‘drop it’. Raja accepted but
thought that, he made him drop such a costly gift.
Second day he took a costly vase, Mahaveerji said,
‘throw it in the corner’. King threw it but was uneasy.
Asked for his ministers advise. Minister was a wise
man, he said, “next time you go barehand, don’t take
any thing”. Raja said, “it not good to go like this. How
can I go without anything, how my emperoral ego will
satisfy”.
Minister said, “You are yourself a gift, reach
empty.” Next day king was before Mahaveerji, thinking
what he will ask to shed off today. As he was a king no
question of bowing, he was stretched. As the eyes
contected, Mahaveerji said “Today shed off your own
self.” As the words were of Mahaveer they entered deep
into king’s heart. He understood that saints make us fall
our ‘I’. The day we fall before a saint or God, our ego
melts that day.
One easy way to shed off ego is JUST SMILE.
