1. Icotest Tablet Test<br />
<strong>The</strong> Ictotest tablet contains nitrobenzine diazonium, p-toluene sulfonate<br />
(bilazo),<br />
sulfosalicylic acid, and sodium bicarbonate. <strong>The</strong> mats are absorbent<br />
asbestos<br />
cellulose.<br />
Procedure<br />
1. Place five drops of urine on either side of the special test mat<br />
supplied with the reagent tablets.<br />
2. Place the tablet in the center of the moistened area.<br />
3. Flow two drops of water on the tablet.<br />
4. Observe the mat around the tablet for the appearance of a blue to<br />
purple color within 30 seconds.<br />
5. Report the results as positive or negative according to the<br />
following criteria.<br />
Negative: <strong>The</strong> mat shows no blue or purple within 30 seconds. Ignore<br />
any color that forms after 30 seconds or a slight pink or red<br />
that may appear.<br />
Positive: <strong>The</strong> mat around the tablet turns blue or purple within 30<br />
seconds. Ignore any color change on the tablet itself.<br />
Sensitivity: Ictotest detects 0.1mg of bilirubin in 100ml of urine.<br />
2. Reagent Strip Tests for Bilirubin (Ex. Multistix)<br />
Principle<br />
<strong>The</strong>se tests for bilirubin are available only on multiple-reagent strips in<br />
conjugation with other tests. <strong>The</strong>y are diazotization tests and are<br />
