Baal HaSulam describes <strong>the</strong>se stages <strong>of</strong> our development in a different<br />

way, uses a different language. We can look upon <strong>the</strong> states ei<strong>the</strong>r<br />

from <strong>the</strong> point <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> light (<strong>the</strong> NaRaNHaY), or from <strong>the</strong> point <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Kelim (<strong>the</strong> Sefirot). We can also divide <strong>the</strong>m in<strong>to</strong> periods that presumably<br />

correspond <strong>to</strong> a human life. This is because all <strong>the</strong> spiritual roots have<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir reflections in our world.<br />

Baal HaSulam may use <strong>the</strong> language <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Torah (<strong>the</strong> Bible or<br />

Talmud) <strong>to</strong> demonstrate that all <strong>the</strong> sacred books write about <strong>the</strong> same<br />

<strong>to</strong>pic: <strong>the</strong> path man must traverse and how he will do that. He says that<br />

<strong>the</strong> problem starts not in this world, but at <strong>the</strong> stage that follows, because<br />

man’s desires begin <strong>to</strong> grow. The Klipot (impure forces) emerge and enable<br />

<strong>the</strong> person <strong>to</strong> transform <strong>the</strong>ir influence in<strong>to</strong> something opposite<br />

and pure.<br />

How does it happen? Here is what <strong>the</strong> Kabbalist says:<br />

31. Our sages say: “The leech has two daughters, crying, give, give<br />

(Proverbs 30, 15)”: “A leech means Hell (hell is a forced use <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

egoistical properties). The sinners, who fall in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> trap <strong>of</strong> hell,<br />
