I N T RO D U C T I O N T O T H E B O O K O F Z O H A R<br />

(in <strong>the</strong> year 0 according <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Jewish calendar, i.e., 5764 years ago), and<br />

<strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> a point in his heart (soul) begins.<br />

Let us have a look at a graph and see how <strong>the</strong> body was developing.<br />

The spiritual point descended in<strong>to</strong> man’s heart 5764 years ago and<br />

activated for <strong>the</strong> first time. The next manifestation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> spiritual desire<br />

<strong>to</strong>ok place in Abraham in around 1947 B.C. The point in <strong>the</strong> heart continued<br />

its development in parallel with egoism, whose growth led <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

destruction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Temple.<br />

Both <strong>the</strong> first and <strong>the</strong> second Temples were ruined, i.e., all spiritual<br />

levels fell with regard <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> point in heart. “The <strong>Book</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Zohar</strong>”<br />

was written after <strong>the</strong> destruction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> second Temple. Its author Rabbi<br />

Shimon lived before and after <strong>the</strong> destruction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Temple, but <strong>the</strong><br />

book could not have been written prior <strong>to</strong> that event, because <strong>the</strong>re had<br />

been no need for such a spiritual source <strong>to</strong> raise people from <strong>the</strong> level <strong>of</strong><br />

a completely shattered screen.<br />

Rabbi Shimon was one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> disciples <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> famous sage Rabbi<br />

Akiva who left us <strong>the</strong> entire spiritual legacy available <strong>to</strong>day. This man’s<br />

s<strong>to</strong>ry is amazing. He was nei<strong>the</strong>r a Jew nor a believer until <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> 40.<br />

Then he began <strong>to</strong> study <strong>Kabbalah</strong>, and later became a great scholar and<br />

teacher. His life was full <strong>of</strong> unexpected turns, but finally he achieved <strong>the</strong><br />

highest possible spiritual level.<br />

Needless <strong>to</strong> say, being Rabbi Shimon’s teacher, he was on a much<br />

higher level than his disciple. One <strong>of</strong> Rabbi Akiva’s students wrote <strong>the</strong><br />
