secrets <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Torah are <strong>the</strong> inner processes that take place in our desires<br />

under <strong>the</strong> light’s influence.<br />

By attaining <strong>the</strong> most pr<strong>of</strong>ound processes in <strong>the</strong> universe, man<br />

corrects <strong>the</strong> animal level <strong>of</strong> his desire (by comprehending <strong>the</strong> Crea<strong>to</strong>r’s<br />

actions, he becomes similar <strong>to</strong> Him at <strong>the</strong> deepest levels <strong>of</strong> his desire)<br />

and extends <strong>the</strong> soul’s point <strong>of</strong> Neshama, which develops in 248 and 365<br />

<strong>of</strong> its organs.<br />

Naturally, this part <strong>to</strong>o consists <strong>of</strong> 248 and 365 sub-parts, albeit on<br />

a different level. If <strong>the</strong> world <strong>of</strong> Assiya is a general inanimate movement<br />

devoid <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> intention for <strong>the</strong> Crea<strong>to</strong>r’s sake, <strong>the</strong> world <strong>of</strong> Yetzira is a yet<br />

undefined general intention, and <strong>the</strong> world <strong>of</strong> Beria is an advancement<br />

by way <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Torah and commandments. The world <strong>of</strong> Beria may be<br />

characterized as <strong>the</strong> light and <strong>the</strong> Kli. This is a very high spiritual level <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> secrets <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Torah and <strong>the</strong> tastes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> commandments.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> picture you see <strong>the</strong> still (Shoresh, 0), <strong>the</strong> vegetative (Aleph,<br />

1), <strong>the</strong> animal (Bet, 2) levels <strong>of</strong> desire. These are desires on <strong>the</strong> level <strong>of</strong><br />

Neshama, i.e., <strong>of</strong> absolute bes<strong>to</strong>wal, when man acquires <strong>the</strong> property <strong>of</strong><br />

Bina.<br />
