June permit fees are slightly higher than last year, with the year to date more than
double 2011, again, due largely in part to the above note apartment complex.
Alterations and additions continue to be an important component of our building
activities as people make the commitment to remain in the community, and upgrade or
enlarge their homes.
In addition to the inspections for all buildings under construction in Lambton Shores, the
Building Department has also been involved with other issues as well, such as the
appeal to the Building Code Commission. Preparing for the appeal required a significant
amount of time, which was a complete waste of time, as the Commission does not hear
the types of appeals submitted, however, it required all parties to participate to make
that ruling. We are proceeding with charges against the property owner to ensure the
safety of the building.
Construction without a permit continues to be an issue, and requires the department to
spend an inordinate amount of time to investigate to ensure code compliance.
Planning
Attached is the chart depicting the planning applications processed to date. With the
exception of minor variances, the number of applications in each category is well ahead
of 2011, which is another indication of the economic health of the community.
