GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for supporting and troubleshooting educational technology at the school and
district level. The Technology Technician’s role is to provide a single point of contact for end-users to receive
support and maintenance within the organization’s desktop computing environment. This includes installing,
diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all PC hardware and equipment to ensure optimal
workstation performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas (in person, by telephone, Remote
Access, or via e-mail) in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end-user assistance where required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex technology problems for end-users, and
recommend and implement corrective solutions, including off-site repair for remote users as needed.
Troubleshoot and perform level 0 and level 1 repairs including computers, printers, scanners, VOIP
telephones, Smart Board Technology , etc.
Assess the need for and implement performance upgrades to PC boxes, including the installation of CPUs, I/O
and NIC cards, hard disks, network cables, RAM memory chips, CD-ROMs, and so on to assist in the installation
of PC computers, Laptops in computer labs and individual classrooms.
Assist in the troubleshooting and installation of LAN/WAN networks.
Collaborate with LAN technicians/network administrators to ensure efficient operation of the company’s
desktop computing environment.
Assist schools/departments in installing computer software.
Assist schools/departments in setup of computer hardware.
Assist in technology in-service and accurately document instances of desktop equipment or component
failure, repair, installation, and removal.
Assist and maintain technology inventory control
Perform routine maintenance on all computer equipment, printers, and other devices connected within the
district which is on-line to the network.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory.
Prepare, maintain, and adhere to procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring network data.
Perform server and security audits; perform system backups and recovery.
Working technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems.
Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards.
Ability to operate network component analyzers, scanners, and testers.
Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
Strong written and oral communication skills, good interpersonal skills.
Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor.
