GENERAL FUND BUDGET
This budget is often referred to as the “Operating Budget”.
The major revenue sources for the General Fund are the Florida Education
Finance Program (FEFP) and local discretionary taxes. Other significant revenue
sources are Workforce funds, Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten funds, and transfers
from Capital Projects Funds.
Appropriations include most of the District’s salaries and benefits, utilities,
supplies, transportation costs, and other operating expenses. The District has
more discretion in appropriating General Fund revenues than other funds.
However, even within the General Fund, much of the revenue is restricted for
specified purposes (e.g., reading, teacher lead program, school recognition, etc.).
Fund balances in the General Fund are the District’s reserves against revenue
shortfalls, emergencies, and other unplanned needs.
