PROJECT TITLE: AGRICULTURAL CROP REHABILITATION<br />
Sector - Agriculture<br />
The direct <strong>and</strong> indirect <strong>assessment</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> agricultural sector revealed a loss to <strong>the</strong> sector <strong>of</strong> $3.76<br />
billion. Domestic crop production was <strong>the</strong> major area <strong>of</strong> devastation which suffered losses <strong>of</strong><br />
just over $900 million, <strong>and</strong> c<strong>of</strong>fee, sugar <strong>and</strong> banana with $855, $802 <strong>and</strong> $525 million<br />
respectively. Approximately 80 per cent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> isl<strong>and</strong>’s greenhouses were destroyed. The main<br />
goal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> project is to allow farmers to recover from <strong>the</strong> damage <strong>and</strong> to build more resilience<br />
into <strong>the</strong>ir operations. The project will focus on a programme <strong>of</strong> resuscitation <strong>of</strong> domestic<br />
agriculture <strong>and</strong> tree crop rehabilitation, restoration <strong>of</strong> damaged greenhouses <strong>and</strong> introduction <strong>of</strong><br />
some resistant greenhouse construction techniques.<br />
