Groundwater Classification:
The saturated zone directly beneath the Site is classified as a Class I: Potable Resource
Groundwater, in accordance with Title 35: Environmental Protection, Subtitle F: Public Water
Supplies, Chapter I: Pollution Control Board Part 620b: Groundwater Classification. The criteria
and justifications for the Class I determination are provided below.
(i)
(ii)
(iii)
(iv)
Based on literature regarding regional geology and Site observations, it is likely that
there is at least 15 feet of fractured dolomite (carbonate) of the Racine Formation
beginning at approximately 17 feet bgs.
Site investigations indicate evidence of unconsolidated sand and gravel with less
than 12% fine-grained material exists in units of five feet or more in thickness.
The Site is not located within any minimum setback of a well, based on information
obtained during V3’s potable well survey (See Section 2.5.5).
Results from a slug test performed by V3 indicate a hydraulic conductivity greater
than 1 X 10 -4 cm/s.
Hydraulic Conductivity
A slug test was performed on monitoring well SM-MW-04 by pumping the well dry
using a Grunfos 2-inch diameter pump and measuring how long it took for the
groundwater elevation took to return to its previous elevation. The data was then
entered into Aqtesolve to determine the hydraulic conductivity of the well. The
hydraulic response from the slug test was determined to be 1.786 X 10 -4 cm/s, which
is greater than the hydraulic conductivity of 1 X 10 -4 cm/s used to determine Class I
Groundwater.
2.5.5 WATER WELL SURVEY
V3 contacted various local and state entities for water well records within a 2,500-foot radius of
the Spartans’ Square Shopping Center. Well searches were conducted within Township 37
North, Range 10 East (Sections 27, 28, 33 & 34). The following sources were contacted and
provided information to complete this well survey:
• Illinois State Water Survey Well Database (non-municipal wells) and the Illinois Water
Inventory Program (IWIP) Database (municipal and commercial wells)
• Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Records of Community Supply Wells (CWS)
• Illinois Department of Public Health Records for Non-Community Supply Wells (Non-
CWS)
• Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Division of Public Water Supplies (SWAP)
Database
• Illinois State Geological Survey – Water Well Database
• Village of Romeoville – Public Works Water Department
• Will County Health Department
Test holes and environmental monitoring wells are not included in this survey and assessment.
