Exploring job opportunities in the workplace<br />

Unit aim<br />
The aim of this unit is to enable the learner to develop the knowledge and skills to apply for a job<br />
through practical learning and application. The skills developed by the learner will include selecting<br />
a number of workplaces to visit, carrying out job searches and applying for a job. The knowledge<br />
acquired by the learner through the unit will enable learners to know what kind of work they want to<br />
pursue, have an understanding of how to look for work and an understanding of the information<br />
that they need to complete a job application.<br />
Learning outcomes<br />
There are five learning outcomes to this unit. The learner will be able to:<br />
1. Decide on up to three workplaces to visit based on their goals and interests<br />
2. Visit three workplaces to find out what different jobs entail<br />
3. Compare the information from their visits to decide what kind of job they would like to do<br />
4. Perform a job search<br />
5. Apply for a job of their choice, using the most appropriate method<br />
Guided learning hours<br />
It is recommended that 30 hours should be allocated for this unit. This may be on a full-time or parttime<br />
basis.<br />
Assessment and grading<br />
This unit will be assessed by:<br />
• Assessor observation<br />
• Oral questioning by the assessor<br />
• Witness statements.<br />
