Unit 317 Developing self Notes for guidance This unit relates to the individual’s personal skills rather than their vocational skills. In using this unit we should focus on the personal skills someone needs to develop in order to succeed in either finding or sustaining employment. In working with this unit the discussion should be documented using the Initial and Baseline Learning Profile (Form 2). It should document how they identified their personal strengths and their suggestions for a suitable target, the support they need and the resources they need. On the basis of that discussion an ILP/action plan should be created documenting the target which is agreed with the learner and conforms to the acronym SMART. The target, support needed and the resources to be used should also be documented. Learners should then work towards achieving their target(s) and this activity should be captured using form the Performance evidence record (Form 4) (assessor observation) or by video or audio. In reviewing their progress for outcome 3, this can be captured within a Assessment plan, review and feedback (Form 3). Detailed notes should be made to capture the learner’s responses based on the assessment criteria. The recording of this process should document the learner’s targets to effectively review their progress. This should include learners self assessing their progress, reviewing what went well and what did not work. It should also capture the learner’s choice as to how they will continue to work towards developing their personal skills. Learner feedback can also be completed through a learner statement.
