Unit 307 Preparing for work placement
Notes for guidance
This unit can be used with learners to help them prepare thoroughly for their placement, reduce
anxiety prior to starting and help to consider what would be expected of them in the workplace.
This unit should be delivered on a one to one basis and may include a visit to the place where the
placement is to take place.
This is assessed through observation and questioning by the assessor.
Outcome 1- Know where they plan to do work placement.
Key information they should know includes: employer name, location, and main contact person.
Outcome 2- Know what is expected of them during the work placement.
Appropriate behaviours include: being punctual, reliable, respectful and completing tasks, attitudes
include: being positive motivated, willing to learn, and being flexible.
Outcome 3- Know appropriate sources of support for dealing with anxiety or uncertainty
during the work placement.
Things that may cause anxiety could include not knowing how to complete a task, it being a new
environment, not knowing anyone etc.
Outcome 4- Know what they might achieve from the work placement.
Learners should be supported to identify what they hope to achieve from the work place and the
skills they would like to learn whilst there. These skills should be relevant to the place of work or
their own personal skills.
