Unit 304 Plan and make a journey using public
transport
Notes for guidance
This unit should be used with learners who require support to learn how to plan and make a journey,
including learning of new routes. The journey the learner plans and makes should be to the place in
which they will be undertaking their work placement to ensure that it is relevant to the learner. This
unit should be delivered on a one to one basis.
This unit should not be used if the learner is able to plan their own journeys and undertake them
with no support.
In planning the journey learners should identify the different ways in which they could travel to work
eg bus, tram, train etc and then find out the relevant information eg bus number, times, cost of the
fare etc.
They should also consider what problems that they may come across and consider how they would
deal with them. For this it may be worth documenting a plan of action that the learner should take if
they encounter any problems after the initial training.
In preparing for the journey they should consider the time they need to leave home to get the
identified method of transport, have the fare ready and anything else that they need to take with
them.
When stating why they should make the journey in a responsible manner they should consider their
personal safety.
