Unit 311 Preparation for work Notes for guidance This unit supports the Exploring Job Opportunities in the Workplace unit as part of employability skills. The initial work can be conducted as part of a discussion, either individually or within a small group. This unit may also feed in to the Developing Self PSD unit. Learners must describe some personal skills (state what they are and how they achieve that particular skill). Learners should then identify what personal skills they have and match them to what the employers want. Discussion should be recorded in detail, if in a group discussion each learner’s contribution must be fully documented. It may be beneficial to record the discussion using an audio recorder. Once the learner has selected the type of job they want to do (within the exploring job opportunities in the workplace unit) they can then further develop their understanding and knowledge of a specific job role. Learners can then compare the information to their wants which have been identified previously and ultimately select a role to apply for.
