The Committee on Public Safety and Transportati begs
to report and recommends for adoption the following resolution

89 09 Consent Calendar
of
WHEREAS the State of Connecticut Department Emergency
Managlment and Homeland Security through the U S Department of
Homeland Security is autgorized to extend financial assistance to
municipalities in the form otgrants and
WHEREAS this funding has been made possible through the U S
Department Homeland Security and
WHEREAS funds under this grant will be used to support
Maritime law enforcement firefighting and Maritime Group Dive
Operations in a manner exceeding current capabilities and
WHEREAS it is desirable and in the public interest that the City of
Bridgeport Central Grants Office submit an application
to the U S
of Homeland Security
Department
in an amount not to exceed
3 529 587 for the purpose addressing the implementation of a Maritime
Support Network supporting Maritime Law Enforcement Firefighting
and Maritime Group Dive Operations in a manner exceeding current
capabilities and expanding the current large scale rnedical and rescue
capabilities
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE City Council
1 That it is of the
cognizant
City s grant application and
Department of Homeland Security for
contract to the U S
funds to support Maritime law enforcement firefighting
and Maritime Group Dive Operations in a manner
exceeding current capabilities to protect the port area
2 That it hereby authorizes directs and empowers the
mayor or his designee to execute and file such application
with the U S Department of Homeland Security for the
Port Security 2009 Program to provide such additional
information and to execute such other contracts and
documents as may be necessary under this program
