Building means any structure built for support shelter or enclosure for any
occupancy or storage
Coastal high hazard area
means the area of special Uood hazard subject to
high velocity waters including but not limited to hurricane wave wash The area is
designated on a Flood Insurance Rate Map FIRM as Zone vtW1 VE
Development means a manmade change to improved or unimproved real
estate including but not limited to the construction of buildin s or other structuresi
the construction of additions alterations or substanticll improvements to
buildings or structures the placement of buildings or structures mining dredging
filling grading paving excavation drilling operations or stora e of equipment the
storage deposition or extraction of or materials and the iinstallation repair or
removal of public or private sewage disposal systems or water supplv facilities
located within the area of special flood hazard
Elevated building In the FEMA issued definition for elevated building
combined specifications are given for structures in A zones and V zones The definitions
for elevated buildings in A zones and for V zones follow
1 Elevated building A and A1 A 30 zones means a nonbasement building
built to have the top of the elevated floor elevated above the ground level
by means of pilings columns posts and piers or shear walls or by
means of fill or solid foundation perimeter walls with openings sufficient to
facilitate the unimpeded movement of floodwaters
2 Elevated building V and V1 V30 zones means a nonbasement building
built to have the bottom of the lowest horizontal structural member of the
elevated floor elevated above the ground level by means of pilings
columns posts and piers or shear walls parallel to the flow of water and
adequately anchored so as not to impair the structural integrity of the
building during a flood of the magnitude of the base flood Elevated
building also includes structures which have the lower area enclosed by
means of breakaway walls if the breakaway walls meet the standards of
Section 15 44 150 C 2 d
