Emergency Medical Technician<br />

EMT 1008 Emergency Medical Technician ......................................................8 Cr. (7 Lec., 3 Lab)<br />

Prerequisite: ACT Reading score of 19 and English score of 19, COMPASS Reading score of 83 and Writing score of 80, or grade of “C” or higher in ACAD<br />

0324 Language Arts. This course is an introduction to the study of emergency medical services and the basic principles and techniques of prehospital<br />

emergency care. Instruction includes a minimum of 120 contact hours of lecture and 48 hours of clinical practice; this includes 24<br />

hours of clinicals in an emergency room setting and a minimum of six emergency calls with an ambulance service. The course is based on the<br />

National Standard Curriculum Guidelines as developed by the Department of Transportation. Successful completion of this course prepares<br />

the student to apply <strong>for</strong> the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Examination.<br />

2023 Technical Communications. Offered in the fall and spring semesters. Basic Technical Communications introduces students to various aspects of<br />

writing <strong>for</strong> the working world. The course provides students with a solid foundation in technical communications and introduces them to the<br />

processes and the <strong>for</strong>mats of creating résumés, writing business letters and memos, developing instruction manuals, designing reports, and<br />

delivering presentations. Although all students will produce common materials, the assignments will be geared toward each student’s chosen<br />

field of study. This course is appropriate <strong>for</strong> certificate students and Associate of Applied Science majors but is NOT applicable <strong>for</strong> credit<br />

toward the Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degrees <strong>for</strong> general education majors.<br />
