Emergency Medical Technician<br />

This program consists of one eight-hour<br />

credit course including both lecture<br />

and practicum experiences that will<br />

meet the <strong>requirements</strong> <strong>for</strong> students<br />

to take the State of Arkansas and<br />

National Registry Emergency Medical<br />

Technician Examination. These exams<br />

are administered through the Arkansas<br />

Department of Health.<br />

Requirements<br />

• n Students must <strong>complete</strong> admission<br />

<strong>requirements</strong> of the <strong>college</strong>.<br />

• n Applicants must be at least 18 years old.<br />

• n Current AHA Healthcare Providers CPR<br />

certification is required. Students enrolled<br />

in the program will be required to have<br />

malpractice insurance.<br />

• n TB Screening/Clearance.<br />

• n Subject to criminal background check.<br />

• n Language Arts/College Success must be<br />

<strong>complete</strong>d prior to EMT 1008 if placement<br />

scores indicate.<br />

After UACCM<br />

Graduates are employed as:<br />

• n Emergency Medical Technicians<br />

Note<br />

n • Students required to take remedial courses<br />

must follow the UACCM Student Success<br />

Plan.<br />

**This course is taught at an off-campus site, typically an area ambulance service<br />

location. The class usually meets two nights per week.<br />

Practical Skills Labs include:<br />

• n Vital signs, patient history and personal protective equipment lab<br />

• n Lifting and moving patients lab (gurney operations, Scoop stretcher, flat emergency<br />

moves, and backboard/log roll)<br />

• n Airway and ventilation skills lab<br />

• n Patient assessment lab <strong>for</strong> medical and trauma patients and Patient Care Report<br />

• n Medical skills lab<br />

• n Trauma skills lab (bandaging, splinting, and spinal immobilization; assessment and<br />

management of patients with traumatic injuries)<br />

• n Pediatrics skills lab
