NUR 1106L Clinical Practicum I ..................................................................... 6 Cr. (18 Lab)<br />

Prerequisite: Admission to the Practical Nursing program. This lab-based course provides beginning nursing students with the opportunity to<br />

practice and perfect basic skills needed to care <strong>for</strong> patients. The geriatric clinical is <strong>complete</strong>d in this course.<br />

NUR 1202L Clinical Competency II. ................................................................... 2 Cr. (6 Lab)<br />

Prerequisite: A grade of “C” or higher in NUR 1216L Clinical Practicum II. This course consists of computer module assignments as well as a<br />

clinical component. Students must prove clinical competency in order to progress to the next level. If a student has been out of the clinical area<br />

<strong>for</strong> one or more semesters, the student will prove clinical competency in the same semester that the student is repeating a theory course.<br />

NUR 1204 Medical Surgical Nursing I ................................................................4 Cr. (4 Lec.)<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion of first semester practical nursing <strong>requirements</strong>. This course discusses the anatomy, physiology, and<br />

pathophysiology <strong>for</strong> the following body systems: integumentary, gastrointestinal, renal, respiratory, and musculoskeletal. Other topics include<br />

diabetes, cancer, fluid and electrolytes, immunity, and bioterrorism. This course prepares nursing students in the care of adult patients,<br />

incorporating all phases of the nursing process <strong>for</strong> these topics.<br />

NUR 1213 Basic Nursing II ............................................................................3 Cr. (3 Lec.)<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion of first semester practical nursing <strong>requirements</strong>. This course is a continuation of NUR 1104 Basic Nursing I and<br />

covers the care of medical disorders discussed in NUR 1204 Medical Surgical Nursing I. <strong>To</strong>pics include emergency preparedness <strong>for</strong> natural<br />

and manmade disasters, laboratory and diagnostic tests <strong>for</strong> topics discussed in Medical Surgical Nursing I, and the nursing care of patients<br />

with disorders discussed in Medical Surgical Nursing I.<br />

NUR 1216L Clinical Practicum II. .................................................................... 6 Cr. (18 Lab)<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion of first semester practical nursing <strong>requirements</strong>. This course is a continuation of NUR 1106L Clinical Practicum I<br />

and provides the nursing student the opportunity to practice and perfect basic nursing skills needed to care <strong>for</strong> patients. The clinical rotation<br />

<strong>for</strong> this course is primarily in a hospital setting.<br />

NUR 1222 Maternal/Child Nursing ...................................................................2 Cr. (2 Lec.)<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion of the first semester practical nursing <strong>requirements</strong>. This course prepares students to care <strong>for</strong> pregnant<br />

women from conception to delivery and to care <strong>for</strong> the child from birth through adolescence. <strong>To</strong>pics include anatomy and physiology of<br />

the reproductive system, conception, fetal development, labor and delivery, post-partum care, and family planning. The developmental<br />

milestones and normal care of each age group is studied. The pathophysiology and nursing care of selected disorders of each age group is also<br />

covered in this course.<br />

NUR 2001 Mental Health .............................................................................1 Cr. (1 Lec.)<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion of all second semester practical nursing <strong>requirements</strong>. This course prepares students to care <strong>for</strong> clients with mental<br />

health disorders. <strong>To</strong>pics include neuroses, psychoses, personality disorders, addictive disorders and, suicide violence. The course emphasizes<br />

the nursing care of the mentally ill, interventions, and treatments and psychopharmacology.<br />

NUR 2002 Pharmacology ............................................................................2 Cr. (2 Lec.)<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion of all first and second semester practical nursing <strong>requirements</strong>. Offered in the fall and spring semesters. This course<br />

concentrates on the medications used to treat the disorders discussed in NUR 1204 Medical Surgical I, NUR 2204 Medical Surgical Nursing II,<br />

NUR 1203 Maternal/Child and NUR 2001 Mental Health. Students are prepared to administer medications to treat these disorders.<br />
