This course in editorial illustration is <strong>de</strong>signed for stu<strong>de</strong>nts who<br />

want to <strong>de</strong>epen their knowledge in one of the several fields of<br />

application of the visual arts. Stu<strong>de</strong>nts will learn to interpret a<br />

text, to discover and <strong>de</strong>velop a personal style of representation,<br />

and to project an illustrated book through the entire productive<br />

process. Stu<strong>de</strong>nts will also have the opportunity to <strong>de</strong>ep their<br />

personal narrative technique and their way of visualizing it,<br />

through the experimentation of mixed media techniques<br />

of un<strong>de</strong>rline drawing. Finally stu<strong>de</strong>nts will create a personal<br />

prototype of an illustrated book, to be completed during the<br />

course.<br />

Introduction to Digital Photography<br />

The course provi<strong>de</strong>s a basic approach to how the photographic<br />

digital camera works. Stu<strong>de</strong>nts gain a broad knowledge of<br />

the history of photography and an appreciation of aesthetic<br />

concerns that enable them to express themselves in a more<br />

cohesive and creative manner. Basic classic photography skills<br />

including an un<strong>de</strong>rstanding of focal length, aperture, shutter<br />

speed, composition, and quality of light are integrated with<br />

techniques specific to digital capture and the manipulation of<br />

images in Photoshop. Photoshop software is used to process<br />

and print photographic imagery. During the semester specific<br />

assignments help stu<strong>de</strong>nts to learn all basic digital techniques.<br />

In the course stu<strong>de</strong>nts acquire confi<strong>de</strong>nce in knowing how<br />

to use their camera well, increased technical control of the<br />

medium, and a more critical eye. This course is 100% digital.<br />

Note: each stu<strong>de</strong>nt must be equipped with an SLR digital<br />

camera with professional manual function and with at least one<br />

lens.<br />
