Executive Summary<br />

This summary is intended to give a brief overview <strong>of</strong> the elements that make up<br />

the master plan document for the <strong>Emeryville</strong> <strong>Center</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Life</strong>. More<br />

detailed information is available in the individual chapters <strong>of</strong> the report itself.<br />

The new <strong>Center</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>Life</strong> is a joint project <strong>of</strong> the City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Emeryville</strong> and<br />

the Emery Unified School District. Housed at the site <strong>of</strong> the existing Emery<br />

Secondary School, on San Pablo Avenue between 47 th and 53 rd Streets, the new<br />

center will provide a new venue for educational, cultural, recreational, and<br />

social programs for all residents <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Emeryville</strong> community. It will become a<br />

much needed heart for the entire community.<br />

1. Program<br />

The space program for the project was developed in order to best<br />

accommodate the proposed activities proposed for the new center. The final<br />

master plan program calls for a new facility <strong>of</strong> approximately 180,000 square<br />

feet, with a minimum <strong>of</strong> 215 parking stalls, and developed outdoor space for<br />

public gathering and recreation. The full program, and diagrams illustrating it<br />

graphically, are included in chapter 3 <strong>of</strong> this report.<br />
