Introduction to Theology<br />

A study of prolegomena, the nature,<br />

method, and sources of theology; and<br />

bibliology, which covers revelation,<br />

inspiration, inerrancy, canonicity, and<br />

theological hermeneutics. This course<br />

is prerequisite to all other required<br />

theology courses. 3 hours.<br />

Trinitarianism<br />

Burns, Holsteen, Horrell, Kreider<br />

A study of the existence and attributes<br />

of God and the persons and functions<br />

in the Trinity, with emphases on Jesus<br />

Christ and the Holy Spirit. Prerequisite:<br />

ST101 Introduction to Theology. 3 hours.<br />

Angelology, Anthropology,<br />

and Sin<br />

Burns, Horrell, Pyne<br />

A study of angelology, the doctrines<br />

of the unfallen angels, the fallen angels,<br />

and Satan; anthropology, a study of the<br />

creation of humanity, the material and<br />

immaterial aspects of humanity, and the<br />

Fall of humanity; and original and personal<br />

sin. Prerequisite: ST101 Introduction to<br />

Theology. 3 hours.<br />

Soteriology<br />

Holsteen, Horrell, Kreider, Pyne<br />

A study of the grace of God in salvation,<br />

including election, the ministry of<br />

the Savior in His humiliation and exaltation,<br />

the nature and extent of the Atonement,<br />

efficacious grace, justification,<br />

regeneration, the salvation ministries of<br />

the Holy Spirit (including Spirit baptism,<br />

indwelling, and sealing), and eternal security.<br />

Prerequisite: ST101 Introduction<br />

to Theology. 3 hours.<br />

Sanctification and Ecclesiology<br />

Kreider, Pyne<br />

A study of sanctification, the doctrine<br />

of the spiritual life, and ecclesiology, the<br />

doctrines of the body of Christ and the<br />

local church, including its organization,<br />

ministry, ordinances, government, and<br />

purpose. Prerequisite: ST101 Introduction<br />

to Theology. 3 hours.<br />

Eschatology<br />

Burns, Holsteen, Kreider<br />

A study of eschatology, including various<br />

systems, history of chiliasm, major<br />

themes and problems in eschatology,<br />

the order of predicted events, and the<br />

rapture question. Prerequisite: ST101<br />

Introduction to Theology. 3 hours.<br />

In addition to these elective courses,<br />

Th.M. students in the <strong>Academic</strong> Ministries<br />

track with a Historical Theology academic<br />

concentration may credit ST620 History of<br />

Philosophy. This course, however, may not<br />

Church<br />

A study of religious practices of early<br />

believers from the second century to<br />

the fall of the Roman Empire, focusing<br />

on the meaning and function of catechism,<br />

baptism, the Eucharist, prayer,<br />

Scripture reading, preaching, church<br />

government, and the church’s role in<br />

society. 2 hours.<br />

The Theology of the Early Church<br />

Bingham<br />

A study of the development of Christian<br />

doctrine from the second to the<br />

fifth centuries. 2 hours.<br />

Augustine and Augustinian<br />

Theology<br />

A study of the life, theology, and<br />

influence of Augustine of Hippo, with<br />

attention to Augustinian thought in<br />

the Middle Ages, the Reformation, and<br />

Theology of the Middle Ages<br />

A study of the development of medieval<br />

thought in relation to political, social,<br />

and religious issues of the times, with<br />

particular attention to the biblical exegesis<br />

and theology of representative<br />

Calvin and Reformed Theology<br />

A study of the theology of John Calvin,<br />

with attention to its formative influence<br />

on Reformed Theology. 2 hours.<br />
