Effective Speaking<br />

Lord<br />

A course designed to help students enhance<br />

their speaking ability. The student<br />

will learn to speak with confidence,<br />

eliminate monotony, diminish fear of<br />

speaking, use vocal techniques to make<br />

the message come alive, and improve<br />

everyday speech. 3 hours.<br />

Reading Scripture to Change Lives<br />

The Department<br />

The principles and practice of individual<br />

and group reading (Readers Theatre) of<br />

the Bible in public worship services as<br />

a means of communicating the Word of<br />

God. Enrollment limited to 15 students.<br />

3 hours.<br />

Dramatizing Scripture<br />

The Department<br />

A course designed to improve students’<br />

vocal and physical delivery through<br />

dramatic presentations of Scripture.<br />

The course emphasizes character and<br />

scene analysis, blocking, acting theory,<br />

and presentation. Enrollment limited to<br />

15 students during the fall and spring,<br />

and 10 students in the summer. 3 hours.<br />

Directed Studies in Pastoral Ministries<br />

PM901 Independent Study in Pastoral<br />

Ministries<br />

The Department<br />

Independent research in some phase<br />

of homiletics, pastoral theology, counseling,<br />

evangelism, or urban ministry.<br />

Credit is allowed proportionate to the<br />

amount of work but not to exceed<br />

four semester hours in any one phase<br />

of study. Limited to advanced students<br />

and subject to consent of the professor.<br />

1–4 hours.<br />

PM902 Pastoral Ministries Thesis<br />

The Department<br />

Independent research and writing of a<br />

thesis on an approved topic pertaining<br />

to pastoral ministry, under the supervision<br />

of two faculty advisers. 2–3 hours.<br />

PM903 Independent Study in Media Arts<br />

The Department<br />

Independent research in some phase<br />

of media-related ministry, including but<br />

not limited to writing, drama, video<br />

production, film production, dance,<br />

and radio production. Credit is granted<br />

proportionate to the amount of work<br />

but is not to exceed four semester<br />

hours in any one phase of study. Enrollment<br />

is subject to the consent of the<br />

professor. 1–4 hours.<br />

PM905 Special Topics in Pastoral<br />

Ministries<br />

The Department<br />

This course is designed for students<br />

who choose to participate in special<br />

conferences, training, or programs that<br />

are more formal in nature and require<br />

student participation other than a<br />

standard independent study. Approved<br />

special topics will provide expertise or<br />

training not specifically covered in the<br />

<strong>Seminary</strong> curriculum. Credit is allowed<br />

proportionate to the required amount<br />

of work but is not to exceed four<br />

semester hours on any one topic.<br />

Enrollment requires consent of the<br />

department. 1–4 hours.<br />
