How does a Christian evaluate art?<br />

What is beauty? These questions and<br />

others are answered in this study of<br />

biblical-exegetical foundations of art,<br />

development of Judeo-Christian theologies<br />

of art, and biblical-philosophical<br />

analyses of artistic expression, with<br />

emphasis on the visual arts. May also<br />

be credited in the Department of<br />

Creative Radio Production<br />

for Ministry<br />

Grant<br />

A course designed to equip students in<br />

the craft of radio production, with an<br />

emphasis on creativity in scripting and<br />

vocal performance. Formats will include<br />

children’s radio theater, evangelistic<br />

spots, radio drama, fiction and nonfiction<br />

audio book production. Enrollment<br />

limited to 15 students. 3 hours.<br />

Creative Writing in Ministry<br />

Grant<br />

A study of the principles and techniques<br />

of effective writing, designed to prepare<br />

students for writing in the Christian field.<br />

Students will write and read their own<br />

material in class as well as edit and<br />

critique the writing of their fellow<br />

students. Enrollment limited to 15<br />

students. 3 hours.<br />

Advanced Creative Writing<br />

A course in which the student applies<br />

the techniques from PM721 Creative<br />

Writing in Ministry to a particular<br />

creative-writing project. Each student<br />

selects and develops one form from a<br />

story, teleplay, film script, first-person<br />

narrative sermon, novel, audiovisual<br />

Publishing Layout and Design<br />

for Ministry<br />

This course equips students with the<br />

skills needed to design print media for<br />

church and parachurch ministries. Students<br />

will be trained in the principles<br />

of aesthetic design and composition,<br />

using the latest in computers and<br />

design software. 2 hours.<br />

Video Production for Ministry<br />

Grant and Regier<br />

A course designed to equip students<br />

to shoot and edit digital video, with<br />

an emphasis on ministry application<br />

(i.e., reports, documentaries, creative<br />

programming, promotions, and video<br />

letters). Students will learn digital, nonlinear<br />

editing software in the classroom.<br />

Digital video cameras will be provided.<br />

Enrollment limited to 18 students. May<br />

also be credited in the Department of<br />

Christian Education. 3 hours.<br />

Introduction to Hymnology<br />

Rucker<br />

A study of the historical and theological<br />

development of the songs of the<br />

church, concentrating on the spiritual<br />

priority of hymns, psalms and spiritual<br />

songs in believers’ lives, singing as prayer,<br />

composing hymn texts in diverse settings<br />

with mastery of metrical elements and<br />

devotional aims. 2 hours.<br />

PM742 Introduction to Praise and<br />

Worship Music<br />

A practical guide to the philosophy and<br />

administration of the music ministry in<br />

contemporary worship, including the<br />

examination of the spiritual ministry<br />

of music in the life of the congregation,<br />

musical styles, cultural renewal, trends,<br />

budgets, and music education. 2 hours.<br />
