Education hours, and two hours are in a ministry<br />

leadership course (SL165 Christian Education<br />

Internship). No thesis is required.<br />

All students in the M.A. in Christian Education<br />

degree program are required to take CE101<br />

Educational Process of the Church, CE102<br />

History and Philosophy of Christian Education,<br />

CE103 Teaching Process, CE104 Audiovisual<br />

Presentations, and SL165 Christian Education<br />

Internship. In addition, each student must<br />

select 12 hours in one of the following 10<br />

ministry concentrations: (1) Church Educational<br />

Leadership, (2) Children’s Ministry,<br />

(3) Youth Ministry, (4) Parachurch Ministry,<br />

(5) Adult Ministry, (6) Family Life Ministry,<br />

(7) Educational Administration, (8) Christian<br />

School Administration, (9) College Teaching,<br />

or (10) Women’s Ministry. Details on each<br />

ministry concentration, to be selected in<br />

consultation with the department, are<br />

outlined on the following pages. Substitutions<br />

outside the concentration may be<br />

approved by a departmental adviser.<br />

International students whose concentration<br />

requires CE715 The Role of the Associate<br />

in Ministry may, with adviser approval,<br />

substitute WM405 Christian Education in<br />

Intercultural Contexts. Those on staff with<br />

Young Life may transfer a maximum of 12<br />

hours toward a parachurch youth ministries<br />

concentration. Consult the Registrar’s Office<br />

for further information.<br />

(Students completing the M.A. in Christian<br />

Education are eligible to apply for admission<br />

to the Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Higher Education<br />

program at the University of North Texas.<br />

M.A. students interested in pursuing the Doctor<br />

of Ministry degree in Christian Eduction<br />

will need to take additional master’s-level<br />

courses to attain M.Div. equivalence.<br />

SPIRITUAL FORMATION<br />

Because <strong>Dallas</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> values character<br />

and spiritual maturity, M.A./CE students are<br />

required to register for and participate in<br />

Spiritual Formation groups each of their<br />

first four semesters of study. Extension students<br />

must contact the Spiritual Formation<br />

director regarding fulfillment of their<br />

Spiritual Formation requirements.<br />

In the Spiritual Formation curriculum small<br />

groups of six to eight students focus on<br />

identity, community, integrity, and ministry.<br />

The groups also provide an atmosphere for<br />

prayer, fellowship, career assessment, and<br />

<strong>Academic</strong> <strong>Programs</strong><br />

<strong>Academic</strong> <strong>Programs</strong><br />

the integration of learning with ministry.<br />

Additionally the groups act as the smallgroup<br />

component of all required internships.<br />

As courses should be taken consecutively,<br />

students are encouraged to arrange their<br />

schedules so that they may stay in the same<br />

group each semester. Spiritual Formation is<br />

a noncredit, transcripted experience. The<br />

prerequisite for all required internships is<br />

SF101 Spiritual Formation I (Identity).<br />

Additional Spiritual Formation courses<br />

focusing on leadership may be taken<br />

as electives.<br />

Church Educational Leadership<br />

Students completing this ministry concentration<br />

should be able to design, direct,<br />

supervise, and evaluate the overall<br />

educational ministry of a local church.<br />

Concentration—Houston Extension<br />

The Church Educational Leadership concentration<br />

is the only CE concentration available<br />

in Houston. Other concentrations will be<br />

supported as resources and enrollment<br />

allow. Students in the Houston Church<br />

Educational Leadership concentration<br />

may take CE105 Teaching Process and<br />

Audiovisual Presentations in place of CE103<br />

Teaching Process and CE104 Audiovisual Presentations.<br />

The concentration also includes<br />

the following courses in addition to the core<br />

Christian Education courses in the M.A./CE.<br />
