Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)<br />
PH.D. DEGREE<br />
PURPOSE<br />
The program leading to the Doctor of Philosophy degree is<br />
designed for those who are capable of doing research at the<br />
highest level, with a view to becoming scholars and educational<br />
leaders in various fields of Christian ministry.<br />
GOALS<br />
Educational Goals<br />
To enable students to:<br />
• do in-depth research in both primary and secondary sources<br />
relating to their chosen field of study;<br />
• understand and critique the major issues in their chosen field<br />
and the main views on those issues; and<br />
• articulate conservative, evangelical theology.<br />
Spiritual Goal<br />
To enable students to manifest a maturing and Spirit-filled character.<br />
Ministry Goals<br />
To enable students to:<br />
• demonstrate ability and acceptability in Christian ministry; and<br />
• communicate effectively through one or more of the following:<br />
preaching, teaching, evangelism, and writing.<br />
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS<br />
Applicants must (1) hold the Master of Divinity degree (M.Div.),<br />
Master of Theology degree (Th.M.), or Master of Sacred Theology<br />
(S.T.M.) degree; (2) have an academic record that demonstrates<br />
superior ability; (3) satisfactorily pass a written examination<br />
in the field of their intended major and an oral examination of<br />
their Christian experience, scholarship, theology, achievement,<br />
and purpose; and (4) show evidence that they:<br />
• have saving faith in Christ;<br />
• are of proven Christian character;<br />
• are endowed with appropriate spiritual gifts; and<br />
• adhere to the following doctrines: the authority and inerrancy<br />
of Scripture, the Trinity, the full deity and humanity of Christ,<br />
the spiritual lostness of the human race, the substitutionary<br />
atonement and bodily resurrection of Christ, salvation by<br />
faith alone in Christ alone, and the physical return of Christ.<br />
Applications for the doctoral program must be received by the<br />
Admissions Office by January 1 for admission the following fall<br />
semester or by September 1 for admission the following spring<br />
semester. The completed applications are then considered by<br />
the Ph.D. Studies Committee for preliminary acceptance.<br />

Admissions Office.<br />
COURSE REQUIREMENTS<br />
Students in the Ph.D. program may major in either the Division<br />
of Biblical Studies or the Division of <strong>Theological</strong> Studies.<br />
