FORMAT FOR (PRELIMINARY/FINAL) SAFETY ANALYSIS<br />

REPORT FOR PARF (>10MeV)<br />

The purpose of Safety Analysis Report (SAR) is to ensure that the measures taken to<br />

minimise the consequences of hazards present in the proposed activity, or to mitigate<br />

their consequences, are sufficient to make the risks of the proposed activity acceptable.<br />

It should contain the following:<br />

1. Introduction<br />

This Chapter should provide a basic understanding of the facility function<br />

and the protection features to the public, workers (health and safety), and the<br />

environment.<br />

2. Executive Summary<br />

The summary should provide an overview of the results and conclusions of<br />

the analysis. The summary should address the results of Chapter 4 and Chapter<br />

5 of the SAR.<br />

3. Site, Facility and Operations Description<br />

This section should describe the accelerator site location and provide<br />

specific data for characterising the site.<br />

This section should also describe the accelerator by providing design<br />

criteria and as-built characteristics for the accelerator, for its<br />

supporting systems, and for components with safety-related functions.<br />

For new facilities and those to undergo major modifications, a fire<br />

hazards analysis is to be included.<br />

How the facility fits into the contractor’s organisation, is to be<br />

described.<br />

The experiments which will use the accelerator should be described,<br />

including those design criteria and characteristics of the experimental<br />

equipment, systems and components, having safety-related functions.<br />

An operation/process description of the accelerator facility should<br />

be provided. Both potential accident and normal operation conditions<br />

for the machine and the experimental program should be<br />

appropriately detailed.<br />

The design process and SAR should consider the worker safety<br />

conditions.<br />
