Chapters Attention! Here Is Announcement of the
First Arthur R. Priest Foundation Award

ANNOUNCEMENT was made in No-
. vember of the first award offered to an
undergraduate member of Phi Delta Theta
by the Arthur R. Priest Foundation. This
award in the amount of $350 has been made
possible by the late Madge Headley Priest,
widow of the former executive secretary,
through her bequest of the residue of her
estate to $ A 0 for scholarships.
A commission of alumni residing in Oxford
was named by the General Council to
invest the funds received and to set up a
program by which the income from the bequest
might be awarded to undergraduate
members of the Fraternity. These alumni.
Dr. Burton L. French, Idaho, '01, Dr. Walter
E. Havighurst, Ohio Wesleyan '23, A.
Robert McHenry, Jr., Gettysburg '38, Lee
S. McDonald, Knox '47, and Harry M. Gerlach,
Miami '30, proceeded to invest the
funds and to set up an award program.
The first year of the investment program
has brought sufficient return to announce
an award of I350. This sum will be presented
to the undergraduate brother who in
the eyes of his fellow chapter members best
exemplifies the teachings of the Bond of
$A0. Chapters will make their nominations
to their Province Presidents before
April 1. The Province Presidents will pass
their recommendations to the commission of
alumni by May 1.
Each chapter of the Fraternity may look
over its membership for an all-around man
whom it believes is outstanding. Consideration
can be given to the following areas of
experience and personal qualities: campus
citizenship, chapter leadership, extra-curricular
activities, moral rectitude, personal
character, and scholarship. Each chapter
will wish to set forth in writing all of its
reasons for believing the man nominated is
deserving of national recognition. The
nominee must have his entire senior year
before him in September 1954.
Through this award $ A © may recognize
and pay tribute to its outstanding undergraduate
leaders. It is fitting that these college
leaders should be encouraged to continue
to take positions of leadership
throughout their adult lives.

in this number is February 10.
