Bailey Promoted to Brigadier
WAYNE C. BAILEY, DePauw '31, assistant commander
of Southern California's 40th Infantry Division, has
been promoted from colonel to brigadier general.
Brother Bailey, who enlisted as a private in the
Illinois National Guard and was commissioned in
the reserve on graduating from DePauw, took part
in the Papuan, East Indies and Philippine campaigns
during World War II. In private life, he is
Vice-President of R. P. Shea, Inc., a heavy engineering
and construction firm at Riverside, Calif.

LT. COL. JOHN W. LEONARD, Akron '36, who is presently
assigned as executive officer of the S^th Infantry Regiment
which is on duty in Korea.
PHIS IN THE SERVICE
LEFT TO RIGHT: PFC DANIEL L. MICHAEL, Washington State '}}, is a photographer in the jojst Signal Photographic
Company which will provide still and motion picture coverage of the exercise "Flash Bum," scheduled for the
Spring, to include training in use of atomic weapons. 2ND LT. ROBERT L. SOMMERVILLE, JR., Lafayette '}), now in
Germany for duty with 1st Infantry Division. MARINE 2ND LT. GREGORY A. CORLISS, Whitman '52, has qualified as
a carrier pilot following six successful landings aboard the light aircraft carrier USS Monterey in the Gulf of Mexico.
1ST LT. CHARLES M. SHEPHERD, Washington (St. Louis) '}o, recently arrived in Okinawa, is fudge advocate officer with
the Ryukyus Command's Headquarters Company.
