Background: In addition to having plans and procedures for handling waste, cruise ship crews that
handle waste must be familiar with those plans and with the safety measures contained in those plans.
What to check for: Check that crew understand procedures, and know where they are and who to
contact if they have questions. Check for presence of safety equipment like eye protection, gloves,
eye wash stations, etc. And general handling of the Hazmat materials.
