Description of <strong>SFPUC</strong> <strong>Wholesale</strong> <strong>Customer</strong>s<br />

California <strong>Water</strong> Service Company–Mid Peninsula District<br />

California <strong>Water</strong> Service Company–Mid Peninsula District is located in central San Mateo<br />

County and serves the Cities of San Carlos and San Mateo and adjacent unincorporated portions<br />

of San Mateo County, including The Highlands and Palomar Park. In 2001, the District served a<br />

population of 120,856 residents and covered approximately 17 square miles. The western portion<br />

of the District is hilly and comprised of low density, single-family housing and open space.<br />

Lower elevations to the east are composed of higher-density single-family and multi-family<br />

residences intermixed with commercial development. All of the District’s water is supplied by<br />

the <strong>SFPUC</strong>.<br />

California <strong>Water</strong> Service Company–South San Francisco District<br />

California <strong>Water</strong> Service Company–South San Francisco District is located in northern San<br />

Mateo County, serves the cities of South San Francisco, Colma, a small portion of Daly City, and<br />

the unincorporated area known as Broadmoor, which lies between Daly City and Colma. In<br />

2001, the District served a population of 49,207 and encompassed approximately 11.2 square<br />

miles. Land use in the service area comprises both residential and commercial areas. In 2001–<br />

2002 approximately 89 percent of the District’s water supply was provided by the <strong>SFPUC</strong>. The<br />

remaining was met by groundwater supply.<br />

Coastside County <strong>Water</strong> District<br />

Coastside County <strong>Water</strong> District provides water to the City of Half Moon Bay and several<br />

unincorporated coastal communities in San Mateo County, including El Granada, Miramar, and<br />

Princeton by the Sea (Pillar Point Harbor). The District’s service area encompasses<br />

approximately 14 square miles. In 2001, the District served 18,319 people. The predominant land<br />

use is residential surrounded by agricultural or light ranching activities. In 2001–2002<br />

approximately 70 percent of CCWD water was provided by the <strong>SFPUC</strong>, with the balance<br />

provided by local surface water and groundwater.<br />

City of Daly City<br />

The City of Daly City is located in northern San Mateo County adjacent to the southern<br />

boundary of the City and County of San Francisco. In 2001, the City served a population of<br />

106,117. The service area encompasses approximately 7.4 square miles. The predominant land<br />

use is residential with a solid core of retail commercial. Daly City receives its water from two<br />

primary sources: local groundwater and surface water provided by the <strong>SFPUC</strong>. In 2001–2002,<br />

Daly City purchased approximately 63 percent of it water supply from the <strong>SFPUC</strong>.<br />

City of East Palo Alto<br />

The City of East Palo Alto is located in southern San Mateo County. The City is a residential<br />

community with some commercial and industrial development. The area is characterized with<br />

mostly single-family housing. In 2001, the City had a residential population of 24,395. The<br />

City’s service area encompasses approximately 2.5 square miles. The City’s only source of<br />

supply is the <strong>SFPUC</strong>.<br />
