Description of <strong>SFPUC</strong> <strong>Wholesale</strong> <strong>Customer</strong>s<br />
Mid-Peninsula <strong>Water</strong> District<br />
Mid-Peninsula <strong>Water</strong> District is located in central San Mateo County, and encompasses<br />
approximately 5 square miles. The predominant land use is residential, and in 2001 the District<br />
served 26,443 residents living within the City of Belmont, portions of San Carlos, and<br />
unincorporated areas. All of the District’s water supply is provided by the <strong>SFPUC</strong>.<br />
City of Millbrae<br />
The City of Millbrae is a residential community situated in northern San Mateo County; the area<br />
contains regional commercial and light industrial development. In 2001, the City had a<br />
residential population of 21,460. The City owns and operates its water utility. The City’s service<br />
area consists of approximately 3.2 square miles and includes Capuchino High School in San<br />
Bruno. The City’s only source of water is the <strong>SFPUC</strong>.<br />
City of Milpitas<br />
The City of Milpitas is situated in Santa Clara County, and occupies an area of about 13.6 square<br />
miles. In 2001, the service area population was 62,756 residents. The City owns and operates its<br />
own water utility. In 2001–2002, the City purchased approximately 59.3 percent of its water<br />
supply from the <strong>SFPUC</strong>, while other water sources and recycled water met the remaining need.<br />
City of Mountain View<br />
The City of Mountain View is located in northern Santa Clara County between the cities of<br />
Sunnyvale and Palo Alto. The area has a balance of single-family and multi-family housing. In<br />
2001, Mountain View provided water to 71,160 residents. The California <strong>Water</strong> Service<br />
Company serves approximately 625 customers in Mountain View. The City’s service area<br />
encompasses 11.7 square miles. In 2001–2002, approximately 89.4 percent of the City’s water<br />
was provided by the <strong>SFPUC</strong>, and the remaining was provided by groundwater supply and other<br />
sources.<br />
North Coast County <strong>Water</strong> District<br />
North Coast County <strong>Water</strong> District serves the north coastal areas of San Mateo County. The<br />
District’s boundaries are nearly those of the City of Pacifica. In 2001, the population of Pacifica<br />
was 40,457 residents. The District’s service area is primarily residential and consists of nearly<br />
12.6 square miles. The <strong>SFPUC</strong> provides 100 percent of the District’s water supply.<br />
City of Palo Alto<br />
The City of Palo Alto is the only municipality in California to operate six utilities: electric,<br />
water, gas, wastewater collection and treatment, storm drainage, and refuse. In 2001, Palo Alto<br />
had a residential population of 59,954. The service area encompasses approximately 26 square<br />
miles of land. Palo Alto is situated in northern Santa Clara County. In 2001–2001, approximately<br />
99.4 percent of the City’s water supply was provided by the <strong>SFPUC</strong>, while the remaining need<br />
was met by recycled water.<br />
