Description of <strong>SFPUC</strong> <strong>Wholesale</strong> <strong>Customer</strong>s<br />

Estero Municipal Improvement District<br />

Estero Municipal Improvement District is situated in central San Mateo County immediately<br />

adjacent to the Bay. The area served is predominantly residential with a broad cross section of<br />

commercial and light industrial development. The District’s service area consists of the City of<br />

Foster City and a part of the City of San Mateo. The District serves a population of nearly 35,000<br />

residents and covers approximately 4 square miles. <strong>SFPUC</strong> provides 100 percent of the District’s<br />

water.<br />

Guadalupe Valley Municipal Improvements District<br />

Guadalupe Valley Municipal Improvements District, located in northern San Mateo County,<br />

consists primarily of an industrial park development located within the Brisbane City limits, and<br />

a small single-family residential enclave. The City of Brisbane operates the District’s water<br />

utility. The District’s service area comprises approximately half of a square mile. In 2001, the<br />

service area’s residential population was 446, while the transient daytime population was<br />

roughly 5,000. The District’s only source of potable water is the <strong>SFPUC</strong>.<br />

City of Hayward<br />

The City of Hayward, located in southern Alameda County on the east shore of San Francisco<br />

Bay, occupies an area of about 61 square miles and in 2001 served a population of roughly<br />

140,000 residents. A balance exists between single-family and multi-family housing with new<br />

growth in its industrial sector. Hayward obtains its entire water supply from the <strong>SFPUC</strong>.<br />

Town of Hillsborough<br />

The Town of Hillsborough is situated in central San Mateo County. The Town is a single-family<br />

residential community zoned for residential estates. In 2001, the Town’s population was 11,618.<br />

The Town’s service area consists of approximately 6.25 square miles and includes the Town of<br />

Hillsborough and portions of unincorporated San Mateo County. The Town purchases all of its<br />

water from the <strong>SFPUC</strong>.<br />

Los Trancos County <strong>Water</strong> District<br />

Los Trancos County <strong>Water</strong> District is located in the rural foothills west of Highway 280 near the<br />

Town of Portola Valley. It serves a single-family residential population of nearly 740 people and<br />

encompasses roughly 4.5 square miles. The District’s only source of supply is the <strong>SFPUC</strong>.<br />

City of Menlo Park<br />

The City of Menlo Park is located in southern San Mateo County. The City serves a balanced<br />

mix of residential, commercial, and industrial users. Though the population of the city of Menlo<br />

Park is over 30,785, the Menlo Park Municipal <strong>Water</strong> Department served only 12,153 residences<br />

in 2001. The remaining portions of Menlo Park are operated by the California <strong>Water</strong> Service’s<br />

Bear Gulch District, and O’Conner <strong>Water</strong> District. The <strong>Water</strong> Department service area<br />

encompasses almost 4 square miles. About 96 percent of the water supply is purchased from the<br />

<strong>SFPUC</strong>.<br />
