First Offenders Program provides services to Bernalillo County Juvenile Probation and Parole. Juvenile Justice Sanctions Program provides services, shelter care, prosocial activities, transportation, and Mental Health Diagnostic Evaluations for Juvenile Justice Division (JJD) clients age 12-17. Project FRESH START offers a variety of services including: Client Support, Life Skills Development, Counseling, Service Assessments, Mental Health Diagnostic Evaluation, Comprehensive Family Services, and Adolescent Shelter Services to youth being released from Youth Diagnostic Development Centers (YDDC). *Juvenile offenders welcome.

The main goal of the shelter is to provide case management services, and permanent placement in an appropriate facility or home for youth that are misplaced due to situations ranging from family crisis to homelessness. While at the shelter, the youth are expected to continue to attend school or the equivalent through their Chapter One and Project Link programs. Comprehensive networking with various agencies assures that the youth will be successfully placed and will have the greatest chance of achieving their goals. In addition to shelter services, a transitional living program is available to persons 16-21 years of age. Persons 16-17 will start the program at the shelter then move into apartments. Persons 18-21 will start the program in apartments. During the program, clients will develop independent living skills through instruction by program staff. Upon completion of the program, the clients will have the knowledge and skills to live on their own. Children's Safehouse of Las Cruces The mission of the Children's Safehouse is to reduce trauma to children and their families by promoting interagency collaboration when a child is an alleged victim of child abuse or a crime witness. The Safehouse provides quality, child-sensitive forensic interviews in cases of alleged sexual abuse and referrals for interviews are accepted only from law enforcement agencies or the Children Youth and Families Department, Protective Services Division. Open Monday-Thursday, 8:30 AM-5:30 PM; and Friday, 8:30 AM-4:30 PM. After hours services are available to clients by appointment. *Ex-offenders welcome.
