Economic Council Helping Others, Inc. provides
numerous services to low-income individuals in
San Juan County: emergency rent, self-help
affordable housing, emergency food boxes, preschool,
commodities, and non-profit agency food
program.
This is an umbrella corporation for agencies that
do provide all of these services.

The housing choice voucher program is the
federal government’s major program for assisting
very low-income families, the elderly, and the
disabled.
The primary concern of this program is to provide
the tenant with decent, safe housing, providing
the family or individual participants are able to
find their own housing, including single-family
homes, mobile homes, and apartments.
There is a waiting list, and the length of time is
about 24 months. The Housing Authority may
provide a list of apartment complexes upon
request.
Applications are accepted on Mondays and
Wednesdays only, and applicants need to bring a
picture ID.

Grants, deferred payment loans, and/or low
interest loans for rehabilitation work, re-roofing,
electrical improvements, plumbing improvements,
and weatherization up to $25,000 is provided for
low to moderate income individuals (up to 80% of
median income).
*Must live within city limits;
*Must own a house;
*Must be low income (i.e., family of one-not more
than $22,250, and a family of four-not more than
$31,750).
