then carried the persons from the property, whereby they met<br />

with considerable opposition. These persons were soon afterwards<br />

released from police custody. The local mayoress herself was only<br />

The woman has her own biological sewage purification plant and<br />

has been stubbornly refusing for years, on financial grounds, to have<br />

her property connected to the public sewerage network. In 2000,<br />

the mayoress hit the headlines when she went on hunger strike<br />

in an attempt to prevent her community being connected to the<br />

centralised system. Other citizens joined in the protest campaign.<br />
