List of key consultation activities<br />

The list of consultation activities (by chronological order) includes <strong>the</strong> following:<br />

1. Regional consultation in Mymensingh: at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Bangladesh</strong> Agricultural University covering<br />

public and private sectors, academia etc, and with farmers at <strong>the</strong> NGO ASPADA (3 rd<br />

December 2010)<br />

2. Department of Agricultural Extension DAE, 6 th January 2011)<br />

3. Department of Fisheries (DoF, 9 th January)<br />

4. Department of Livestock Services (DLS, 10 th January)<br />

5. R&D Agencies like BARI, BRRI, BJRI, etc under National Agricultural Research System<br />

(NARS) led by <strong>Bangladesh</strong> Agricultural Research Council (BARC, 13th January)<br />

6. The Director General of Health Services focusing on <strong>the</strong> nutrition dimension (DGHS,<br />

17th January)<br />

7. O<strong>the</strong>r agencies like Agriculture Information Service (AIS), Seed Certification Agency<br />

(SCA), <strong>Bangladesh</strong> Agricultural Development Corporation (Sech Bhab an, BADC, 18 th<br />

January)<br />

8. The Directorate General of Food, Directorate of Relief and Rehabilitation with FPMU<br />

focusing on <strong>the</strong> access dimension (DGoF, 18 th January), and<br />

9. The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and its agencies (MoFL, 19 th January)<br />

10. Discussion with <strong>the</strong> private sector on 25 th January 2011 at <strong>the</strong> Metropolitan Chamber of<br />

Commerce and Industry (MCCI), with private sector leaders and think -tanks (like <strong>the</strong><br />

Chairman of Grameen Bank, representations from <strong>the</strong> think-tank Policy Research<br />

Initiative), FAO, USAID and IFPRI;<br />

11. The 2nd regional consultation took place in Khulna divisional town (29 th January) on two<br />

separate locations: <strong>the</strong> Circuit House for <strong>the</strong> agencies, traders, chamber representatives,<br />

media, academia; and at <strong>the</strong> DAE Auditorium for <strong>the</strong> farmers, NGO, traders, women<br />

farmers’ groups<br />

12. The 3 rd regional consultation was held at <strong>the</strong> Rural Development Academy in Bogra<br />

district on 5 th February covering all <strong>the</strong> stakeholders and farmers<br />

13. A separate consultation with <strong>the</strong> CSOs and NGO forums was also taken on 24 th February<br />

at FAO Dhaka office.<br />

14. A consultation between <strong>the</strong> private sector and <strong>the</strong> public sector was organized on 27 th<br />

February and chaired by <strong>the</strong> Secretary, Ministry of Fish and Livestock (MoFL);<br />

15. A broader consultation on <strong>the</strong> “access” dimension was taken on 3 rd March at FPMU,<br />

where both GoB agencies, ministries and <strong>the</strong> relevant DPs joined in a brain-storming<br />

session.<br />

16. Broad consultation with <strong>the</strong> private sector, Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and<br />

Industry (MCCI), 6 th March. This consultation brought toge<strong>the</strong>r private sector<br />

associations, lead investors in <strong>the</strong> agro-business and o<strong>the</strong>r relevant industries toge<strong>the</strong>r with<br />

<strong>the</strong> leaders of financing systems/banking sector. The Minister for MoFDM was <strong>the</strong> Chief<br />

Guest and had a press conference with a large group of media representatives at <strong>the</strong> end<br />

toge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> FAO Representative, USAID Mission Director and IFPRI<br />

Representative.<br />
