Record of Issues that Arose in <strong>the</strong> Discussion Meeting on January 10, 2011 at DLS,<br />
Farmgate on CIP consultation<br />
A Consultation on <strong>the</strong> CIP was held at <strong>the</strong> Department of Livestock Services (DLS) conference<br />
room in <strong>the</strong> morning of 10 th January 2011. The Director General of DLS Mr. Asraf Ali chaired <strong>the</strong><br />
consultation and Dr. Z. Karim moderated <strong>the</strong> process of discussion. The CIP document was<br />
discussed and <strong>the</strong> following points/issues were raised in <strong>the</strong> light of <strong>the</strong> programmes and priority<br />
interventions by <strong>the</strong> senior officials of DLS participating in <strong>the</strong> meeting:<br />
i. The participants suggested inclusion of <strong>the</strong> following specific activities under<br />
Programme # 5, apart from <strong>the</strong> earlier Proposed focus and priority interventions:<br />
• Streng<strong>the</strong>n DLS with respect to a) increasing <strong>the</strong> professional strength b)<br />
developing modern infrastructure facility and c) imparting higher training abroad.<br />
• Streng<strong>the</strong>n disease research and vaccine production of DLS<br />
• Establishing veterinary disease diagnostic centre in DLS field offices<br />
• Streng<strong>the</strong>n AI services of DLS with development of infrastructure (storage,<br />
transportation) and manpower<br />
• Streng<strong>the</strong>n disease surveillance system of DLS<br />
• Improvement of indigenous chicken<br />
• Promote public private partnership for livestock development<br />
• Support research on feeds and fodder<br />
• Support establishing reliable livestock data base<br />
• Promote farmer’s training for livestock development<br />

In programme # 6 on access to market, <strong>the</strong> participants highlighted <strong>the</strong> inclusion of<br />
DLS for Promotion of community based supply chain development for livestock<br />
products (e. g, Community based contract growers, Rural Chilling Centre, storage,<br />
value addition, etc)<br />
There is an overall suggestion to include DLS in Programme # 1, 6, 8, and 10 in addition to o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
institutions already included.<br />
Regarding activities, DLS was invited to provide revised investment priorities and related budget<br />
under <strong>the</strong> required template within one week. Dr Karim summed up <strong>the</strong> discussion. The chair also<br />
highlighted above points. He <strong>the</strong>n concluded <strong>the</strong> consultation with thanks to all.<br />
