Record of Issues that Arose in <strong>the</strong> Discussion Meeting on January 06, 2011 at Department of<br />
Agricultural Extension (DAE), Khamar Bari on CIP consultation<br />
Consultation was held at <strong>the</strong> DAE conference room on <strong>the</strong> morning of 6 th January. 2011. The<br />
Director General of DAE chaired <strong>the</strong> consultation. Ms. Lalita Bhattacharjee, FAO, made a<br />
welcome remark on behalf of FAOR. Dr. Z. Karim moderated <strong>the</strong> discussion. Systematic<br />
presentation and discussion were held on <strong>the</strong> various programme area and priority interventions.<br />
The relevant issues emerged from <strong>the</strong> discussion are recorded:<br />
i. Explore a new programme area on climate change adaptation on sustainable production<br />
of crops, fishery and livestock, while <strong>the</strong> first programme area should be renamed as<br />
Integrated research and extension development.<br />

Suggested Inclusion of <strong>the</strong> following under Programme # 1, (in addition to earlier<br />
Proposed focus and priority interventions):<br />
• Streng<strong>the</strong>ning agricultural technology transfer system<br />
• Faster promotion of already mature technology for increasing productivity<br />
• Promote agriculture diversification (crops, fishery and livestock)<br />
• Establish soil health care management<br />
• Promote vegetable and fruit production<br />
Under programme # 3: Streng<strong>the</strong>ning Community-based seed production system needs<br />
to be included as an additional focus area. It is also suggested to include <strong>the</strong> Seed<br />
Certification Agency as an implementation agency.<br />
Under programme # 6 (access to market): include capacity development initiatives to<br />
streng<strong>the</strong>n DAE.<br />
v. Under Programme # 2, 3, 6, and 10: include DAE as one of <strong>the</strong> agencies to be<br />
considered.<br />

Deleting <strong>the</strong> name of projects from <strong>the</strong> list of implementing institutions, for example<br />
ASPS and NATP.<br />
Regarding budget and priorities, DAE has been invited to recast <strong>the</strong> allocation and to provide<br />
information in <strong>the</strong> supplied template. Dr. Lalita emphasized that nutrition education should be<br />
streng<strong>the</strong>ned in <strong>the</strong> agriculture extension programme. Dr Karim summed up <strong>the</strong> discussion. The<br />
chair also highlighted above points and concluded 3 hour consultation offering thanks to all.<br />
