The diagnostic X-ray unit should be installed after obtaining layout plan<br />
approval from AERB.<br />
3.13.2.5 Commissioning and Operation<br />
The applicant shall submit an application <strong>for</strong> Registration of the X-ray facility.<br />
The Consentee should have qualified and trained radiologist and radiography<br />
technologist/radiographer. The radiographer or the radiologist, who is familiar<br />
with basic principles of radiation protection, should be responsible <strong>for</strong><br />
radiation safety of the patient and the medical staff and may be designated as<br />
RSO Level-I with the approval of AERB. The RSO should ensure that<br />
personnel monitoring device is made available. QA test reports as per <strong>for</strong>mat<br />
given in Appendix 8C-II OR 8C-III as appropriate should be prepared and<br />
submitted along with the application <strong>for</strong> registration.<br />
Prior to seeking Regulatory Approval <strong>for</strong> commissioning and operation, the<br />
Consentee should have:<br />
(i)<br />
(ii)<br />
Qualified and trained manpower -X-ray technician, radiologist;<br />
Personnel monitoring devices <strong>for</strong> all workers;<br />
In response to the application <strong>for</strong> registration, AERB may inspect the<br />
installation and grant the Registration of the X-ray installation. Any unusual<br />
occurrences should be promptly reported within 24 hours and this should be<br />
followed by a detailed report.<br />
The application <strong>for</strong>mat <strong>for</strong> obtaining the Registration of the diagnostic X-ray<br />
facility is given in Annexure 40. For applicants seeking Renewal of<br />
Registration, the requisite details need to be filled in the same Registration<br />
application <strong>for</strong>mat as per Annexure 40.<br />
3.13.2.6 Lead Time <strong>for</strong> Submission/Availability of Documents<br />
The lead time <strong>for</strong> submission of documents at any stage of <strong>Consenting</strong> process<br />
is 30 days be<strong>for</strong>e the desired date of Consent and the documents should be<br />
complete in all respects <strong>for</strong> review by AERB.<br />
3.14 Baggage Inspection System<br />
3.14.1 General<br />
Baggage inspection systems are commonly used in airports <strong>for</strong> identifying<br />
the contents inside the baggage. Medium energy X-ray unit is used <strong>for</strong> scanning<br />
the baggage while the latter passes through the conveyor belt.<br />
3.14.2 Safety Assessment and Approval<br />
The X-ray unit of the baggage inspection system requires Type Approval<br />
from the AERB. Type Approval is issued to the manufacturer, which is<br />
explained in subsection 3.18.1.<br />
