training in radiological safety and experience if any, as prescribed by AERB.<br />

The radiological safety officer (RSO) may be of Level I, II or III. The level<br />

of the RSO and requisite training courses are given in the table below.<br />

Level of RSO Training course to be completed<br />

RSO Level I Radiological safety aspects of nucleonic gauges or safety<br />

aspects in the research applications of ionising radiation,<br />

or any other training on radiation safety deemed to be<br />

appropriate and approved by AERB.<br />

RSO Level II Radiography testing Level- 2, or any other training on<br />

radiological safety deemed to be appropriate and<br />

approved by AERB.Diploma in <strong>Radiation</strong> Medicine,<br />

Diploma in medical radioisotope technology or any other<br />

training courses plus RSO Level- II Certification<br />

examination deemed to be appropriate and approved by<br />

AERB.<br />

RSO Level III<br />

Diploma course in radiological Physics (Dip. R.P.) or any<br />

other equivalent courses, deemed to be appropriate and<br />

recognised by AERB.<br />

The application <strong>for</strong>mat <strong>for</strong> obtaining Approval of the radiological safety officer<br />

(RSO) <strong>for</strong> different types of facilities is given in Annexure 68. RSO is required<br />

to carry out his designated duties including submission of periodic reports<br />

on the safety status of the institution to AERB.<br />

3.18.4 Lead Time <strong>for</strong> Submission/Availability of Documents<br />

The lead time <strong>for</strong> submission of documents is 60/30 2 days be<strong>for</strong>e the desired<br />

date of approval and the documents should be complete in all respects <strong>for</strong><br />

review by AERB.<br />

3.19 Channels of Communication<br />

It is essential that proper channels of communication between the different<br />

parties involved be clearly established at the earliest possible stage of the<br />

consenting process. This should facilitate a smooth and continuous flow of<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation and documents to the AERB <strong>for</strong> its review and assessment, and<br />

expediting the consenting process.<br />

The applicant should designate a group or an individual who will be the<br />

coordinating agency/representative of the applicant <strong>for</strong> interaction with the<br />

AERB, <strong>for</strong> a specific facility. This coordinating agency/representative will<br />

interact with the concerned safety review committee of the AERB and will<br />

submit the requisite documents to the committee, and provide necessary<br />

clarifications and supplementary in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />
