In case of imported equipment and devices, AERB may grant No Objection<br />

Certificate based on an Application submitted along with technical details<br />

and Certificate issued by the competent authority of the country of origin.<br />

The NOC is only <strong>for</strong> the import of the equipment. After import and installation<br />

of the equipment/device, the AERB may carry out verification of per<strong>for</strong>mance<br />

test of the unit. The AERB may grant Type Approval based on the verification<br />

of per<strong>for</strong>mance and on being satisfied that the equipment/device meets the<br />

requirements of National/ International standards specified in the technical<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation provided to AERB.<br />

4.11.1.2 Assessment <strong>Process</strong><br />

For consideration of Approvals <strong>for</strong> equipment, devices, sources and shipments<br />

listed in subsection 2.8.1, the applicant is required to furnish generally the<br />

following:<br />

(i)<br />

(ii)<br />

(iii)<br />

(iv)<br />

safety analysis report, as applicable;<br />

compensatory safety measures to be achieved through operational<br />

controls (applicable <strong>for</strong> shipment approval only);<br />

quality assurance (QA) programme;<br />

test report meeting the relevant specifications in accordance with<br />

Standards approved by AERB or details of National/International<br />

Standards followed along with the certificate issued by the AERB of<br />

the country of origin (where applicable).<br />

The AERB against an application complete in all respects grants Approval<br />

after review. The Type Approval is, unless otherwise specified, valid <strong>for</strong> a<br />

period of five years and may be renewed subsequently based on its continued<br />

compliance wherever applicable.<br />

The Consentee is required to submit to AERB periodic reports on the quality<br />

control and quality assurance measures being followed in the manufacture of<br />

the approved equipment/devices, transport packages or encapsulation of<br />

sealed sources.<br />

4.11.2 Safety Manpower Approval (i.e.RSO Approval)<br />

4.11.2.1 Review <strong>Process</strong><br />

A two-tier review process is followed by the AERB be<strong>for</strong>e issuance of<br />

approval of <strong>Radiation</strong> Safety Officer (Level I, II & III) designated <strong>for</strong> a<br />

radiation facility. Two-tier review includes review by AERB <strong>for</strong> checking<br />

the essential qualifications, training and experience, meeting the requirement,<br />

followed by review in the safety review committee <strong>for</strong> application of radiation<br />

(SARCAR).<br />
