4.9.2 Assessment <strong>Process</strong><br />

For consideration of Authorisation <strong>for</strong> the facilities defined in subsection<br />

2.6.1(i-v), the applicant is required to furnish generally the following:<br />

(i)<br />

(ii)<br />

(iii)<br />

(iv)<br />

(v)<br />

(vi)<br />

(vii)<br />

the submission of the required in<strong>for</strong>mation covering the design of<br />

the source, equipment and layout of the facility, wherever applicable;<br />

proposed quality assurance (QA) programme;<br />

availability of type approved sources and devices;<br />

availability of trained and certified manpower such as radiological<br />

safety officer (RSO), operators;<br />

availability of personnel monitoring devices;<br />

availability of radiation measuring and monitoring instruments; and<br />

waste disposal measures<br />

The AERB against an application complete in all respects grants Authorisation<br />

after review. The AERB may also inspect the facility on the basis of<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation provided in the application. The Authorisation, unless otherwise<br />

specified, is valid <strong>for</strong> a period of five years and may be renewed after review<br />

of the safety per<strong>for</strong>mance.<br />

For consideration of Authorisation <strong>for</strong> the practices defined in subsection<br />

2.6.3 (i-iii), the applicant is required to ensure the following<br />

(i)<br />

(ii)<br />

availability of approved source and radioactive waste transport<br />

containers; and<br />

availability of trained and certified manpower such as radiological<br />

safety officer (RSO), operators and technical manpower specified<br />

by AERB <strong>for</strong> specific facility.<br />

For transfer of decayed radioactive sources or radioactive waste to an<br />

authorized waste management agency/supplier of the radioactive source, the<br />

Authorisation is, unless otherwise specified, valid <strong>for</strong> a period of three years<br />

and may be renewed subsequently. The Authorisation <strong>for</strong> decommissioning<br />

of a facility is granted <strong>for</strong> a period specified by AERB as required <strong>for</strong> the<br />

purpose of decommissioning.<br />

4.10 Registration<br />

4.10.1 Review <strong>Process</strong><br />

In general, the review <strong>for</strong> Registration <strong>for</strong> the facilities covered under<br />

subsection 2.7.1(i-v), is only one-tier review. The AERB may inspect the<br />

facility to verify the in<strong>for</strong>mation provided in the application. The application<br />

is reviewed by the Radiological Safety Division, AERB, based on the criteria<br />

and guidelines set in the rules, standards, codes and guides.<br />
