WILD LIFE SILVICULTURE AND CINEGETICS REVIEW XVII/30/2012 Fallow deer in lower Mureş floodplain forests Abstract The only Mures river valley forests populated with fallow deer are west of Arad. Species colonization was achieved in 1963, when they brought 8 specimens (2 male and 6 hinds) from the park Şarlota (Timiş County). They were originally kept in an enclosure, and then, shortly have been released. If the first decade after colonization, fallow deer remained in the forests Bezdin and Rata-Vaida (initially on the Secusigiu-Mailat hunting fund, then falling under the Sânpetru German fund), then increasing the number, Sorin Geacu, Adrian Rener the species habitat extends north of Mures where in the forest Gheduş (Gheduş-Remeteag) appear the first specimens in 1972. In the spring of 2012 there were 138 specimens, most of them (114) in forests Bezdin and Rata-Vaida and only 24 in the forest Gheduş. The first specimens were collected in 1977, and the most valuable trophy (195.59 CIC points) belonged to a bull hunted on Oct. 15, 2006. Keywords: fallow deer, Mureş valley, Arad County, Romania.
