EDITORIAL SILVICULTURES AND CINEGETICS REVIEW XVII/30/2012
Starting in 2012, The Journal of Forestry and Hunting
will expand the dissemination of progress in the
science and technology of forestry and hunting from
national to international level, recording the following
changes:
- Biannual occurrence, not only printed, but in
electronic form on the website:
www.progresulsilvic.ro
- Publication in English of the main scientific and
technical articles, received written in Romanian,
French, German or Spanish.
- Completing the Editorial Board by inviting
prestigious scientific personalities from Germany
Aurel Teuşan and Rudof Rosler; from France Peter
Bradoschi; from Czechoslovakia Professor Ladislav
Paule, from the U.S. Professor Sorin Popescu, and
from Costa Rica Fausto D. Morales.
- Orientation of topics towards global issues, to the
resolution of which forestry and hunting play an
important role. Below we illustrate some of these
areas:
- Effective management of key resources: water, soil,
air and forest ecosystems. Rivers, lakes, erosion and
pollution protection forest belts. Detoxification of
polluted rivers. Improvement of degraded soils.
Abandoned land use. Detection, evaluation and
monitoring of pollution by foliar diagnosis. Tending
operations in forest ecosystems, maintaining a good
phytosanitary state, ecological restoration, natural
regeneration and use of small wood.
- Sustainable use of natural resources: research for the
knowledge of: virgin forests, exceptional trees and
resource interdependence. Protection of natural
resources through market instruments: taxation of tree
harvesting and other activities affecting the
environment (deforestation and injuries) and forest
border care for. Sustainable use of forest ecosystems
by promoting mixed stands of native species and of
local origin, natural regeneration of forests, avoiding
grazing in the forest. Conservation and biodiversity
monitoring.
- Superior capitalization of wood: enhancing beech
thinning. Promoting forestry in harmony with natural
and potential productivity of forest; production of
high quality thick wood; maximization of carbon
storage in the forest and participates fully to the fight
against climate change. Limiting exports of rough
wood.
- Raising environmental standards: better knowledge
and implementation of environmental legislation.

quality. Use of partnerships. Public awareness and
campaigns for social and environmental behavior
change. Models of best environmental practices in the
urban life. Environmental exhibitions and forums.
Prevention of environmental degradation (floods,
heavy snow falls, drought and heat stroke and
excessive heat in cities) by creating the forest belts to
protect the rivers, agricultural crops and roads, by
creating urban forests and green belts, and by
ecological design, impact studies and environmental
balance of investment work.
- Improving public forestry education by raising
awareness of general public and youth regarding the
role and wealth of the forest and respect towards the
forest.
Launching of conservation actions and
implementation of outstanding research results, out of
which we exemplify the below.
For the protection of exceptional trees in Romania
after the call issued by St. Radu and C. Coandă "Let
us save remarkable trees - endangered living
treasures” (FCR 21/2005), have been written the
following articles:
- „Exceptional trees in the beech and fir forest of
Şinca Veche” (Ţaga Mountains, Braşov) (V. Bolea, D.

- „Famous specimens of the Quercus robur L.

K. Péter, FCR 29/2011);
- „Draft law on protection of exceptional trees in
Romania” (V. Bolea, C. Balabaşciuc, I. Florescu, C.
Stoiculescu, FCR 29/2011);
-„King of spruce of Poiana Braşov” (V. Bolea, G.
Ienăşoiu, FCR 29/2011);
- „Elm hierarchy in Romania” (V. Bolea, FCR
30/2012);
- „Elm (Ulmus laevis Pall.) of Căpeni” (D. Vasile, C.
Cojanu, K. Péter, FCR 30/2012).
For the implementation in practice of the tradition of
identification, publicity, evidence and protection of
exceptional trees in Romania, the Brasov - Covasna
Branch of "Forestry progress Society" has been
carried out the following:
- Sending the draft law on exceptional tree
preservation in Romania to forestry engineers,
members of the Romanian Parliament;
- Launching of the action to save exceptional trees
during the meeting of Brasov - Covasna Branch of
Society "Forestry progress" on September 13, 2011,
